Carrying & Wielding Items
Rulebook
Items are carried in three ways:
Held: In your hands. You typically have two hands.
Worn: In pockets, belt pouches, sheaths, etc. Can be retrieved quickly.
Stowed: In a backpack or similar container. Harder to access.
Wielding: You’re wielding an item when holding it in the number of hands needed to use it effectively.
Drawing and Stowing
Drawing a worn item or changing grip usually requires an Interact action. You can draw, pick up, or hold a two-handed item in one hand, but need to change grip to wield it.
Interact lets you:
- •Draw, put away, or swap an item (swap = put away one, draw another)
- •Pick up an item from the ground
- •Pass or take a held item from a willing creature
- •Detach a shield using one hand
- •Change grip (add a hand to an item)
- •Retrieve a stowed item from a container
Release (free action) lets you:
- •Drop an item to the ground
- •Remove a hand from an item
