Exploration Mode

Rulebook

Exploration mode covers travel, investigation, and other activities outside of combat. In this mode, time moves in minutes or hours rather than 6-second rounds.

Exploration Activities

Each character chooses one exploration activity at a time. Common activities:

  • Avoid Notice: Use Stealth for initiative, start hidden
  • Defend: Raise a Shield at the start of combat
  • Detect Magic: Cast detect magic at regular intervals
  • Investigate: Examine surroundings for clues (Perception/relevant skill)
  • Scout: Gain +1 circumstance bonus to initiative for one ally
  • Search: Seek hidden objects and traps
  • Hustle: Move at double Speed but only for limited time

Transition to Encounter

When danger appears, the GM calls for initiative. Your exploration activity may affect your initiative roll or starting conditions.

GM Tips

Ask players what their characters are doing while exploring. This determines what happens when encounters begin and what they notice.
