Hero Points
At the start of each game session, every PC receives 1 Hero Point. The GM hands out additional Hero Points during play, typically about 1 per hour after the first (roughly 3 extra in a 4-hour session). For a more heroic game, award 1 every 30 minutes.
A player can spend Hero Points in two ways:
Reroll: Spend 1 Hero Point to reroll a check. You must use the second result. This is a fortune effect.
Heroic Recovery: Spend ALL remaining Hero Points (minimum 1) at the start of your turn or when your dying value would increase. You lose the dying condition entirely and stabilize at 0 HP. You don’t gain or increase the wounded condition from this, but you keep any wounded value you already had.
Hero Points are earned for brave last stands, protecting innocents, clever tactics, landing killing blows on tough foes, and moments that make the whole table celebrate. The GM should ensure every PC has opportunities to earn them.
