Item Damage
Every item has a Hardness value. Each time an item takes damage, reduce the damage by its Hardness. The remaining damage reduces the item’s Hit Points.
Broken Threshold (BT)
When an item’s HP drops to or below its BT, it gains the broken condition. A broken item can’t be used for its normal function, nor does it grant bonuses — except broken armor, which still grants its AC bonus but imposes a status penalty: –1 (light), –2 (medium), or –3 (heavy).
Destroyed
At 0 HP, the item is destroyed and can’t be Repaired.
Object Immunities
Inanimate objects are immune to: bleed, death effects, disease, healing, mental, nonlethal, poison, spirit, vitality, void, and the doomed, drained, fatigued, paralyzed, sickened, and unconscious conditions.
Shoddy Items
Shoddy items cost half Price but impose a –2 item penalty to attacks, checks, and DCs. Their HP and BT are halved.
| Material | Hardness | HP | BT | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cloth | 1 | 4 | 2 | Explorer’s clothing, padded |
| Leather | 4 | 16 | 8 | Hide, leather, studded leather |
| Metal | 9 | 36 | 18 | Breastplate, chain, full plate, scale |
