Recall Knowledge (Detailed)
Rulebook
Recall Knowledge is a secret check — the GM rolls for you and tells you what you learn.
Attempting to Recall Knowledge about a creature uses the skill associated with that creature’s type (see the Creature Identification Skills reference table). The DC is typically the creature’s level-based DC.
Critical Success You learn specific, useful information about the creature. The GM might tell you one of its best-known abilities, a significant weakness, or a key resistance.
Success You learn something useful — the creature’s identity and one piece of useful information (a well-known ability, its general strengths, etc.).
Failure You learn nothing.
Critical Failure You recall incorrect information about the creature.
Key Rules
- •You can attempt to Recall Knowledge about a given creature only once per encounter, unless you critically fail (in which case you can’t try again at all)
- •The GM decides what information you learn — you can’t ask for specific stats
- •Applicable Lore skills often have an easier DC (typically Easy or Very Easy adjustment)
- •Common creatures give less novel information; rare creatures reveal more
