Trigger The lid of the barrel is removed;

Effect Removing the lid breaks a thin lever that initiates a chain reaction. The hoops snap, and the barrel's staves fall open like the petals of a flower. Four explosive rats are catapulted out in all directions, and the hazard rolls initiative.

Ignition◆

The spark plug creates a fire that rapidly burns the oil-covered creatures and objects surrounding the barrel, dealing (1d6+4) fire damage and 1d4 persistent fire damage (DC 18 reflex save).

After catching fire, areas and creatures are no longer covered in oil.

Disable DC 18 crafting or DC 18 thievery check to jam the mechanism of one of the spray nozzles. Every success disables one of the three oil nozzles, reducing the hazards number of actions by 1. After all three of the oil nozzles are disabled, there is no longer any oil surrounding the barrel for the ignition mechanism to burn, so the hazard can't deal damage. The ignition mechanism can be disabled with another DC 18 crafting or DC 18 thievery check. Each attempt to disable the hazard requires 2 actions.

A menacing clockwork contraption emerges from this impressively large and heavy-duty oaken barrel. A spring-loaded launcher mechanism catapults explosive-laden rats, and nozzles spray flammable oil before igniting it.
